I decided to just go ahead and use the Blogger image capabilities, and I'm happy I did. If you click on an image now, you can see it much bigger than before. And the small images on the page are the same size I already used, so I didn't have to adjust that either. You can check it out in the
pumpkin post. I will not update any of the older images. They will serve as a reminder of a lost era. Now I just gotta get the sing-song-sing-along contest up and running.
And since we're talking regular features here, I decided to abandon usual procedures for November, and will use
Wyatt's blog as Neighbor of the Month. I think it's only right.
Let me take this opportunity to write some more stuff that means nothing at all. As everyone probably already knows,
Firefox 1.5 has been released. I installed it right away and have been using it for the past few days now. There are mostly a bunch of little
things that have been changed. One of the new features is the ability to rearrange tabs by drag and drop or using CTRL+arrow when the tabbar is selected. I formerly had an extension installed that allowed this. But there were also a few things that I don't like. Well, the fact that some of the extensions don't work yet is not really a problem, since I'm sure they will be fixed soon, and I prefer to wait than fiddle with the extensions myself as comments to the extensions suggest (I highly recommend
Super DragAndGo once it's updated). But it is a little annoying. What really bugged me was that the search engines I had added for the searchbar were all gone. The reason for this is, that the search plugins are located in the installation folder, not the profile folder. So naturally they were deleted when I installed 1.5. I added the engines I wanted and manually changed the order of the search engines in the dropdown-menu via about:config. Actually my settings from the previous version were still there so I didn't really have to do anything (I added browser.search.order.x preferences, x being the position in the list and the engine name as a string value). But for some reason the order was not correct all the way. Some stuff was in the right order, other engines were out of place. Why?
Well, it turns out that engines that are added by the user are placed in the profile folder, not in the installation folder along with the default engines. And this somehow caused the problem. So, I just moved
all the search plugins to the profile folders (I use a separate profile for my job). Now the search engines were ordered in alphebetical order, i.e. in the order they are stored in the folder. Great. So I moved all of them to the installation folder and it's fine. Of course I don't really need eBay search or IMDB in my work profile, but I had that with the older version as well. Apparently the changes in about:config apply only to the installation folder. So every time I add a new search engine, I will have to move it to the installation folder manually. Also I hope that future updates will not delete the additional engines.
Update: I found an extension not listed on the official Mozilla site, and it allows the
rearranging of search engines with Drag and Drop. It adds the same entries in about:config that I used, but I can now have the search engines in the profile folders.
