Dreamtime stories.
Alright, alright, we know it's been forever since we posted. Truth is, we ventured into a cave and it was super-long, taking the whole month to make it back out the other end. To keep our sanity we had to invent things we were experiencing instead, like staying with a family in Christchurch, where the son was a fellow skateboarder. It was pretty sweet and the work we did included brickwork, painting, weeding and spreading compost. We also dreamed about flying into Sydney and having like a major shock from how busy it was with people, realizing that we had really gotten used to the slow and relaxed pace in New Zealand, and that Auckland was the last really big city we were in, which is sleepy by comparison. We rented a van to travel down the South Coast but decided that going all the way to Melbourne was too far, so instead we only went to a place called Bateman's Bay and headed over to Canberra from there. We even saw question time in parliament, where people from opposition and government ask the prime minister and the other ministers questions and generally bicker at each other (The house speaker yelled "Order!" all the time and warned different members, even removed one towards the end). It was awesome.
Canberra has heaps of free sights like the National Museum, but it was unusually cold. Anyway, from there we took our crappy Wicked rental to the Blue Mountains and checked out the basic stuff there. Of course I got to skate a little bit too.
Which brings me to the here and now. The last thing we made up was going from Chrictchurch to the West Coast, stopping in New Zealand's greatest town (Reefton, of course) and being bugged by mice on Arthur's Pass. Now we're heading over Lewis Pass to the East Coast again, and then up and back over to the North Island.
Did I mention we got to pet wild kangaroos in Oz? And saw some real purdy birds? And the Opera House was cool, too. In the end we were ready to get back to NZ though. Funny how that works out sometimes. Like I said though, it's all made up. Okay, gotta go, wash that cave dirt off.
